According to former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson, the club’s objective of meeting Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) guidelines by Sunday has been greatly enhanced by offloading Harrison’s wages.
As reported by The Athletic on June 19, Everton will pay 100% of Harrison’s salary for next season, absolving Leeds of any financial responsibility. This development has lifted a weight off the shoulders of the Elland Road outfit, who are working to rebalance their squad under manager Daniel Farke.Robinson, who is well-connected at Leeds, shared his insights on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
He believes that the club has pulled off an astute piece of business by removing Harrison’s wages from the books for a year.The former Whites ‘keeper emphasized that PSR guidelines are not just about transfer fees but also wages. He cited Aston Villa’s experience last season, where they fell foul of PSR regulations after giving Ollie Watkins a new contract.
Leeds United is now focused on balancing their wage bill and transfer business. Robinson noted that Farke has indicated that Brenden Aaronson, who spent last season on loan at Union Berlin, is the only player among last season’s loan players who could return to the squad.Aaronson’s potential return to Leeds’ plans is a welcome development, as the midfielder did a decent job in the Championship. However, Robinson believes that Aaronson may struggle in the Premier League, where he was lightweight last season. Nevertheless, Aaronson’s return could be like a new signing for Farke to work with.
