Leeds United’s summer sale continues, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Rasmus Kristensen is set to leave Elland Road and join Eintracht Frankfurt in a £15m deal. The Danish defender will initially join Frankfurt on loan, with the option to buy included in the agreement.
Romano confirmed the news on social media, stating: “Eintracht Frankfurt are set to sign Rasmus Kristensen, exclusive story confirmed. Deal imminent.” He added: “More details on Rasmus Kristensen to Eintracht Frankfurt. Deal done on season-long loan with option to buy clause included. Value of buy option clause is £15m. Medical tests tomorrow, exclusive story confirmed. Here we go.”
Kristensen’s move to Frankfurt comes after a disappointing spell at Leeds, where he struggled to make an impact in his first season. He was subsequently loaned to Roma, but failed to meet expectations. The right-back was also excluded from the Europa League squad, further highlighting his struggles.
Despite interest from his former club FC Midtjylland, Kristensen has opted to join Frankfurt, turning down the opportunity to return to his boyhood club. According to Romano, Kristensen stated that it was “too soon” to join Midtjylland at this stage in his career.
The move to Frankfurt will see Kristensen reunite with defender Robin Koch, and the Danish international will be hoping to revive his career in the Bundesliga. With the option to buy included in the loan agreement, Frankfurt have the opportunity to make the move permanent if Kristensen impresses.
Leeds United have already sold six players this summer, with Archie Gray joining Tottenham for £40m and Glen Kamara moving to Rennes. Kris Klaesson, Diego Llorente, Marc Roca, and Charlie Cresswell have also left the club, while Jack Harrison, Sonny Perkins, Sam Greenwood, and Darko Gyabi have gone on loan.
The sales have sparked a mixed reaction from Leeds fans, with some questioning the club’s transfer strategy. Danny Mills, a former Leeds player, has expressed concerns over the departures, stating: “I’m not sure if Brenden Aaronson really wants to return to Leeds.”
However, with the club’s financial situation a concern, the sales may be necessary to ensure the club’s stability. Leeds have already brought in some new signings, and the funds generated from the sales may be used to bolster the squad further.
As Kristensen prepares to join Frankfurt, he will be hoping to put his struggles at Leeds behind him and revive his career in the Bundesliga. With the option to buy included in the loan agreement, Frankfurt have the opportunity to make the move permanent if Kristensen impresses.
The move is a significant one for both Kristensen and Frankfurt, and it remains to be seen how the Danish defender will fare in his new surroundings. One thing is certain, however – Leeds United’s summer sale shows no signs of slowing down, and fans can expect more departures in the coming weeks.
