Exclusive: Keith Wyness Reveals Sean Dyche’s Tactical Plans for Everton

In an exclusive interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Keith Wyness, former CEO of Everton Football Club, has disclosed that manager Sean Dyche is determined to adopt a more attacking approach in his third season at the helm.

Wyness, who currently runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs, suggested that the recent signing of Jake O’Brien could pave the way for a switch to a three-man defense. Everton confirmed the capture of O’Brien on July 30, with the 23-year-old defender penning a four-year deal at Goodison Park.

The arrival of O’Brien, coupled with the signings of Iliman Ndiaye, Tim Iroegbunam, Jesper Lindstrom, and Jack Harrison, has bolstered Dyche’s squad ahead of the new season. Wyness believes that these additions will enable Dyche to implement a more attacking style of play.

“O’Brien’s arrival provides the flexibility to play three at the back,” Wyness explained. “Dyche has done extensive work on the team’s tactics and is resolute in creating a more attacking ethos this season. He aims to make a strong start and push for a mid-table finish.”

Wyness also highlighted the significance of the upcoming season for Everton, with the club set to bid farewell to Goodison Park and relocate to a new stadium. “This season will be emotional, with a lot of pressure on the squad. However, with the right tactics and team dynamics, Everton can achieve a successful campaign.”
