Arsenal could join the race to sign Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard as a move to Manchester United is now ‘stalling’.
Manchester United seemingly won’t be signing Benjamin Pavard and that could open the door for Arsenal to pounce.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Pavard is ‘one to watch’ in the final stages of the transfer window.
Romano claims that the Frenchman is ‘prepared to leave’ Bayern right now and clubs are queueing up for his signature.
The Italian believes that Inter Milan now have Pavard at the top of their transfer wish list and an offer is imminent.
Manchester United had been favourites to sign Pavard but Romano claims their deal is ‘stalling’ because Harry Maguire isn’t leaving.
Maguire’s move to West Ham United has collapsed this week and he looks set to stay at Old Trafford.
That means United can’t bring in Pavard and the door is open for somebody else to pounce – such as Arsenal.
Romano claims that Arsenal could now launch a move for Pavard as they consider landing a new defender after Jurrien Timber’s injury.
Benjamin Pavard could tick the boxes for Arsenal
Arsenal ideally won’t want to splash big money on another defender given that, eventually, Timber will be back in action.
Any deal would have to be a relative bargain and that could be Pavard.
The Frenchman is into the final year of his Bayern contract and has indicated that he is not interested in extending.
That means Bayern may well be tempted to sell Pavard before he leaves for absolutely nothing in a year.
Hailed as ‘world class’ by Niko Kovac, Pavard has versatility that will appeal to Mikel Arteta as he can play at right back or centre back.
It was a similar story with Timber before Arteta played him at left back; maybe he could do the same with Pavard.
The 27-year-old has proven himself as a solid player for Bayern in recent years and he could make perfect sense as an Arsenal signing – if they decided to spend after Timber’s injury.
