Jamie Carragher Predicts West Ham Will Finish Ahead of Newcastle in Premier League

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has made a bold prediction ahead of the new Premier League season, backing West Ham United to secure a European spot ahead of Newcastle United. Despite Newcastle’s impressive 1-0 win over Southampton and West Ham’s disappointing 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in the opening matches, Carragher believes West Ham’s new signings and style of play under Julen Lopetegui will give them an edge in the long run.

Carragher explained his reasoning on Monday Night Football, saying: “I think West Ham will play a different style of football, trying to get on the ball more and utilizing players like Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus. Their recruitment this summer has been impressive, and I believe they will be a European contender.”

He continued: “I don’t think it will be completely different, maybe the West Ham fans are sort of having this idea that maybe it will be this really open, expansive (style) I don’t think Lopetegui’s is that. But I do think it will be a case of trying to get on the ball more, trying to get Paqueta on the ball more, Kudus as well we saw (play so well vs Villa).”

Carragher’s prediction puts him at odds with fellow pundit Gary Neville, who tipped Newcastle for a European spot. Neville has been impressed with Eddie Howe’s work at Newcastle, but Carragher thinks West Ham’s new signings and style of play will give them an advantage.

“I like Newcastle, I love Eddie Howe, but I think they might just miss out on the European positions – like they did this year,” Carragher said. “West Ham were that under David Moyes, they won a European trophy, so you know they’ve been there or thereabouts, but I think it might be done in a different way, that’s what they want.”

Carragher’s comments have sparked debate among Premier League fans, with some agreeing that West Ham’s new signings and style of play will give them an edge, while others believe Newcastle’s consistency and Eddie Howe’s management will see them secure a European spot.
