West Ham United’s management is reportedly regretting the decision to dismiss David Moyes, as Julen Lopetegui struggles in his new role. Mick Brown, a recently departed scout who closely worked with Moyes, expressed concerns about the impact of this decision on the club’s performance.
Since Lopetegui took over, West Ham has had a challenging start to the season, managing only one win in their first six league matches. Following a disappointing 1-1 draw against Brentford, the team has accumulated just five points, leading to increasing discontent among fans who are already questioning the manager’s future.
Moyes was let go amid criticism of his team’s playing style, despite achieving solid results during his tenure. However, many supporters are voicing similar frustrations with Lopetegui, as the team has only scored more than one goal in a game once across all competitions.
Brown highlighted that there is a growing belief that the team’s performance must significantly improve soon. He noted that while there were initial doubts about the decision to part ways with Moyes, the board hoped to see better results under Lopetegui, which have yet to materialize.
Despite these challenges, reports suggest that the board is not actively considering a change in management at this early stage of the season. However, Brown insisted that the board’s understanding of the game is limited and questioned their decision-making process. He emphasized Moyes’ achievements, including saving the team from relegation and leading them to seventh place in the league, alongside a European competition victory.
Brown stated, “Having made the decision to sack him, I heard there were times when the board regretted that, but hoped they’d get away with it.” He added that while some individuals have faced consequences, the most accountable parties remain unaffected.
As the season progresses, the pressure mounts on Lopetegui and West Ham’s management to address the team’s performance issues and restore fan confidence.
