Rangers could make a move for a former manager depending on the outcome of Sunday’s Old Firm, it has been claimed.
Danny Rohl is under pressure for the first time as Ibrox head coach after back to back defeats against Motherwell and Hearts left title hopes in tatters.
They need to win three remaining games against Celtic, Hibs and Falkirk and hope for results elsewhere if they are to bring back their Premiership chances from the brink.
It’s sparked debate on whether or not Rohl is the man to lead them forward. Steven Gerrard was spoken to as part of the search to replace Russell Martin late last year before Rohl was appointed, having won the title at Rangers in 2021, but said no.
He’s been linked with the Burnley job in England after becoming available following time in Saudi Arabia at Al Ettifaq.

Nixon claims via Patreon: “Burnley are running the risk of losing managerial candidate Steven Gerrard – with old club Rangers considering a shock return. The relegated Clarets have made Gerrard a potential replacement for Scott Parker but have yet to make a formal approach.
“Supremo Alan Pace is deciding in his next move and also spending a lot of time in his Spanish side Espanyol who could also go down. Meanwhile Gerrard’s name is being whispered in high places in Glasgow where he is still admired from his previous spell.
“Danny Rohl made a strong start in the Rangers job but recent results have gone wrong and the club find failure hard to live with. Gerrard’s appeal and availability make him a strong choice if Rohl is fired – with a game against Celtic on Sunday that may go a long way towards deciding his fate.”

Speaking ahead of the latest Old Firm, Rohl said: “It’s a special game for us. It was straight after the game as well, the message to my players, that we have a big responsibility for the last three games to go. Nobody needs any extra motivation to go win this game. We want to make our supporters and fans proud, and it means we have to deliver on Sunday.
“For us, it is about winning games, and that is more than just about stopping someone else or about winning a title for us; it is about making supporters proud, and it means for us to deliver a good result and hopefully three points. We want to go there and put all the things that we should do in this game and play for a good result for us.”
