Brendan Rodgers Reveals Celtic’s Plan if Adam Idah Misses Time Due to Injury
Celtic striker Adam Idah suffered a knock during last weekend’s win over Motherwell and is awaiting scan results to determine the extent of the injury. The challenge from Liam Gordon left Idah in discomfort, and Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is preparing for the possibility of Idah missing time.
Thankfully, the wet pitch may have lessened the impact of the tackle, but Rodgers is cautious. “I think it was a poor challenge… Thankfully, the ground was a bit wet, so his foot is able to move, otherwise if it’s a dry pitch and his foot sticks in the field, it can be a really bad one.”
With Kyogo Furuhashi as the only natural striker left, Rodgers has identified Daizen Maeda as a potential solution to fill Idah’s role if needed. Maeda has experience playing as a central striker, scoring twice against Hibernian in August.
Rodgers stated, “If needed, if needed. Earlier on in the season, when Daizen played up front, he scored two goals. So, I think it’s a position he can play… We want to have as many of our players fit and available for all the games that we have.”
Maeda has an impressive goalscoring record for Celtic, with 35 goals in 116 appearances, mostly from the left wing. Six of those goals came this campaign, making him the joint-top scorer alongside Nicolas Kuhn.
While Idah’s potential absence isn’t ideal, Maeda’s versatility provides a suitable short-term solution. However, Rodgers may look to bolster the striker position in January to ensure Celtic’s attacking depth.
Celtic faces Dundee tonight, and Idah’s status remains uncertain. Rodgers will hope for positive scan results, but Maeda’s ability to adapt provides a reassuring backup plan.
