Alan Shearer’s Fury: Former Newcastle Star Reveals Threat to “Flatten” Craig Bellamy
A shocking revelation has emerged from former Newcastle midfielder Kieron Dyer, detailing a heated exchange between Alan Shearer and Craig Bellamy in 2005. According to Dyer, Shearer wanted to “flatten” Bellamy after receiving a provocative text message.
The Backstory
Bellamy’s tumultuous departure from Newcastle in January 2005 sparked a bitter feud. Graeme Souness, the then-Newcastle manager, omitted Bellamy from the squad for a match against Arsenal, citing a hamstring injury. However, Bellamy disputed this claim, admitting he had feigned an injury during a training session.
The Incriminating Text
Following Newcastle’s 4-1 loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final, Bellamy sent Shearer a text, allegedly blaming him for his acrimonious departure. Shearer, still reeling from the defeat, took offense and vowed to confront Bellamy.
Dyer’s Account
On the Open Goal podcast, Dyer recounted the incident: “Bellamy must have text him (Shearer) as Al came up to me and basically said, ‘I’m going to flatten your mate.’ We had just lost in the FA Cup semi-final, and it got a bit messy… Al had every right to because he had just lost an FA Cup semi-final.”
Shearer’s Invitation
Shearer, still fuming, invited Bellamy to his house to settle the score. Dyer recalled: “He said, ‘You can come to my house,’ and you can imagine… But I think Al had every right to because he had just lost an FA Cup semi-final.”
Bellamy’s Immaturity
Dyer attributed Bellamy’s actions to youthful immaturity: “Bellerz was in his early 20s… When you’re like that, you’re immature. Bellez probably thought he (Shearer) had grassed him up and thought this is a good time to give him banter. But obviously, the banter was wrong.”
Legacy of the Feud
The incident highlighted the strained relationship between Shearer and Bellamy. Dyer noted: “I wouldn’t say they were best friends, but they were colleagues who never had any friction. But I wouldn’t liked to have got that text after losing the FA Cup semi-final.”
