Celtic Outcast Alexandro Bernabei Thriving on Loan in Brazil

Alexandro Bernabei, the Argentine left-back, has rediscovered his form on loan at Brazilian club Internacional, sparking reports of a potential national team call-up and a permanent transfer.

Bernabei, 24, joined Celtic from Lanus in 2022 for £3.8 million but fell out of favor under Brendan Rodgers. He was loaned to Internacional in March and has since impressed with three goals and three assists in 20 appearances.

His performances have earned rave reviews, with some Brazilian journalists even calling for his inclusion in the Brazil national team, unaware of his Argentine heritage. Tim Vickery, BBC Sport’s South American football correspondent, noted on X: “Celtic fans might be interested to know that Bernabei is proving a sensation in Brazil with Internacional.”

Vickery highlighted Bernabei’s attacking contributions, stating: “Very attacking – 2 assists tonight in a 2-0 win.”

While a Brazil call-up is unlikely, Bernabei is reportedly on Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni’s radar. Internacional, however, faces a hurdle in securing his permanent transfer, with Celtic setting an £8 million asking price.

Internacional president Alessandro Barcellos deemed the fee “unaffordable” and will instead pursue a loan extension. Bernabei’s contract with Celtic runs until summer 2027.

As Bernabei continues to impress in Brazil, Celtic will reassess his value to the team. Will they reconsider his role at Parkhead or capitalize on Internacional’s interest?
