Celtic’s Champions League Hopes Receive Major Boost
Scottish champions Celtic are in outstanding form, both domestically and in Europe. With a near-perfect 10 wins and one draw from 11 matches, they sit top of the table. In the Champions League, they have secured seven points from a possible 12, putting them on track for a play-off finish at the halfway stage.
Pundit Michael Stewart attributes Celtic’s success to their astute summer transfer business. Among the eight new recruits, former Sheffield United player Auston Trusty stands out as a key addition to elevate the club’s European hopes.
Stewart praised Trusty’s defensive qualities, saying, “The beauty about Trusty as well, (he’s) predominantly left-sided, but we’ve seen him with Scales, he is comfortable enough to go and play on that right-hand side.” He also highlighted Trusty’s impressive performance alongside Liam Scales against Atalanta, noting that “both were outstanding”.
Trusty has started 10 league matches for Celtic, contributing to eight wins and five clean sheets, including a memorable victory over RB Leipzig.
Meanwhile, Rangers are facing potential UEFA punishment due to their financial situation. Football expert Dan Plumley warned that Rangers must control their outgoing costs after publishing a £17.2m pre-tax loss. UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules may be breached if Rangers’ player wages and amortization exceed 85% of revenue. Plumley urged caution, stating, “Their football cost at the minute loosely from what we can see in the accounts… is about 85% of revenue, and we know UEFA are looking at getting that marker down to 70% by the 2025-26 season”
