Ross McCormack Reveals His Celtic Past Before Signing with Rangers

Former Rangers striker Ross McCormack has made a startling admission about his past, revealing that he was once a Celtic fan and even participated in a pitch invasion at Parkhead. McCormack, who came through the ranks at Rangers and went on to play for several clubs, including Leeds and Cardiff, has spoken candidly about his early days as a Celtic supporter.

In an interview with Open Goal, McCormack recalled how he had a season ticket at Celtic Park and was present at the final game of the 1997-98 season, when Celtic pipped Rangers to the title with a win over St Johnstone. McCormack, who was just 15 at the time, even joined in the pitch invasion, stealing a piece of the grass as a memento.

“I was a Celtic fan yeah. I had a season ticket,” McCormack said. “My last game we had the season ticket was St Johnstone at home when Celtic stopped Rangers getting ten-in-a-row. (Henrik) Larsson and (Harald) Brattbakk scored. I was on the pitch after that game stealing the grass and putting it in my pocket, during the pitch invasion at Parkhead. I was then 15 when I went full-time (with Rangers).”

McCormack’s admission may come as a surprise to many, given his subsequent association with Rangers. However, he explained that his rejection by Celtic at a young age had paved the way for his move to Rangers. “When I was eight I went for a trial (with Celtic) up at St Roch’s I’m sure, and they told me I was too small. And basically, that means you’re s****. They don’t want you. So I ended up going to Rangers.”
