Celtic Legend Henrik Larsson Reveals Debt of Gratitude to Scottish Club

Celtic icon Henrik Larsson has expressed his eternal gratitude to the Scottish club for taking a chance on him in 1997. The Swedish striker, who went on to become one of the greatest players in Celtic’s history, credits the club with launching his career.

Larsson’s comments came during a Q&A event in Glasgow, where he was also in attendance for Celtic’s clash with Club Brugge. Former SNP leader Humza Yousaf, who was present at the event, described meeting Larsson as an “incredible experience.”

“They say you shouldn’t meet your heroes, you will only be disappointed. Complete rubbish!” Yousaf wrote. “I had the enormous pleasure of meeting my childhood hero Henrik Larsson last night. What a lovely gent, generous, thoughtful, and full of humility. Thank you Henrik for the memories.”

Larsson’s move to Celtic in 1997 proved to be a turning point in his career. He went on to score 174 goals in 221 league appearances for the Hoops, winning numerous accolades, including five Golden Boot awards, four league titles, two Scottish Cups, and two League Cups.

The Swedish striker, who also played for Manchester United and Barcelona, remains Celtic’s third-highest goalscorer of all time. He has spoken fondly of his time at Celtic, acknowledging the club’s role in launching his career.

“I’ll be eternally grateful to Celtic because they took a chance on me when other clubs didn’t,” Larsson said. “It was here where I became recognised as a player. It was here that I went on to play in European Championships and World Cups with Sweden. This is a club that believed in me, and I’ll always remember that.”
