FIFA Rankings: Celtic Place 25 Spots Higher Than Rangers
Celtic and Rangers have been enjoying some impressive results in Europe over the last couple of months. Celtic have been competing in the Champions League, while Rangers have been participating in the Europa League.
Celtic’s European campaign has seen them beat RB Leipzig and Slovan Bratislava, while also drawing with Atalanta and Club Brugge. Their only defeat came at the hands of Borussia Dortmund.
Rangers, on the other hand, have been doing well in the Europa League, with wins over Malmo, FCSB, and Nice. However, they suffered a heavy defeat to Lyon and drew with Olympiacos.
Following the latest round of European fixtures, FIFA has released its rankings, and Celtic place 25 spots higher than Rangers.
Celtic rank 37th in the FIFA rankings, ahead of teams like Feyenoord, Bayer Leverkusen, and Dinamo Zagreb. Rangers, on the other hand, rank 62nd, with only Besiktas placed below them.
Celtic and Rangers have big European nights coming up this month. Celtic will travel to Dinamo Zagreb, while Rangers will host Tottenham Hotspur at Ibrox.
If both clubs can win their ties, they will guarantee at least a play-off place and European football beyond January, which should help boost Scotland’s coefficient this season.
The FIFA rankings are a reflection of a team’s performance over a certain period. While they are not the only measure of a team’s success, they do provide an interesting insight into how teams are performing relative to each other.
In this case, the rankings suggest that Celtic are currently performing at a higher level than Rangers. However, there is still a long way to go in the season, and both teams will be looking to improve their performances and climb the rankings.
