Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers is reportedly lining up a big-money transfer to sign Brondby sensation Mathias Kvistgaarden. According to Football Insider, the Scottish giants have been sending scouts to keep tabs on the Danish striker in the Danish Superliga this season.
Kvistgaarden has been in impressive form for Brondby, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists in 20 outings. His form has caught the attention of Celtic, who are looking to bolster their attacking options.
The 22-year-old striker has been hailed as “phenomenal” and “super consistent” by U23 scout Antonio Mango. His statistics suggest that he could thrive on the creativity provided by Celtic’s Nicolas Kuhn.
In the Danish Superliga, Kvistgaarden has scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 12 starts. His form is comparable to that of Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi, who has scored five goals and provided three assists in nine Premiership starts.
Celtic’s interest in Kvistgaarden is reportedly long-term, with the club prepared to wait until the summer transfer window if they are unable to convince Brondby to part ways with their star forward midway through the campaign.
A price of €10m (£8.3m) was mentioned for Kvistgaarden’s transfer in the summer, but it remains to be seen how much Celtic are prepared to pay to land their target.
If Celtic can secure a deal to sign Kvistgaarden, Rodgers could sign a dream partner for Kuhn. The Danish striker’s form suggests that he could thrive on the creativity provided by the German winger.
Celtic should also sign Kvistgaarden because, at 22, he has plenty of years left to develop and improve and could be a fantastic asset for Rodgers and the club moving forward.
