Ampadu has been out of action since suffering lateral ligament damage during the 3-0 win over Coventry City back in September. The Wales international was initially ruled out for 10 weeks, with Farke initially stating that Ampadu wouldn’t be back in action for the side until January.
However, Ampadu could be ahead of schedule in his recovery. The Leeds skipper could be very close to a return to full training at Thorp Arch, based on the above prognosis. Having been confirmed out for 10 weeks on September 30, he entered his ninth week on the sidelines on Monday – meaning that by this time next week, he will be at the end of the initial timescale.
In that time, Ampadu has missed 11 league games, where Leeds have picked up six wins and 21 total points. Up next for Leeds is a home double-header with Derby County on Saturday and then Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, before they travel to Preston on the following weekend.
Ampadu has spoken about his recovery, stating that he is happy with his progress but does not want to rush back into action. The 23-year-old said, “It’s going well. Recovery can have its ups and downs, but I feel like it’s gone fairly well at the moment.”
“There’s a bit of time and a bit of healing that still needs to be left to be done but it’s going well, I am happy about it, I am quite positive about it so the sooner obviously for me personally the better.”
Considering a return to action ahead of schedule, Ampadu continued, “I hope as soon as possible. But I don’t want to rush it as well.”
“I want to be playing, if I could, the Swansea game, but maybe it’s not right for my knee to do that so I just have to wait and see. I don’t really want to put a time schedule on it. As quick as possible, but when it’s right.”
Ampadu’s return to action could provide a significant boost to Leeds United’s promotion hopes. The Whites are currently third in the Championship table, but they face stiff competition from several other teams, including Fulham, Bournemouth, and Blackburn Rovers.
