John Textor Trying to Get One Over on Everton as Crystal Palace Prepare £16.5m Offer for Midfielder

The Everton takeover saga has finally come to an end, with the new owners, the Friedkin Group, now in charge. However, one of the previous potential suitors, John Textor, is still making waves in the football world. Textor, who owns majority shares in Crystal Palace, is reportedly trying to rival Everton for one of their transfer targets, Maxence Caqueret.

According to Foot Mercato, Crystal Palace has prepared a five-year deal for the midfielder worth around £16.5m. Caqueret, who currently plays for Lyon, has been linked to Everton, but it seems that Textor’s Palace is now in the running to sign him.

This development is interesting, given that Textor was previously close to buying Everton before the Friedkin Group reignited their interest. It appears that Textor is now trying to get one over on the Toffees by signing Caqueret, who turned down a move to Everton last summer.

The Friedkin Group, however, is unlikely to be fazed by Textor’s moves. The new Everton owners have been commended for their professionalism and boardroom etiquette, which is a significant improvement on the previous regime.

Everton is keen to land a new midfielder in January, with injuries having proven an issue for Sean Dyche’s side. The Toffees have already submitted a bid for Marcelino Nunez from Norwich City, but that bid was rejected by the Championship side.

As the January transfer window heats up, it will be interesting to see how the Caqueret saga unfolds. Will Everton be able to sign the midfielder, or will Textor’s Palace succeed in poaching him? Only time will tell.
