Kieran Tierney Rejects Premier League Move to Return to Celtic

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney is reportedly on the verge of a sentimental return to his boyhood club Celtic, having rejected interest from several Premier League clubs, including Leicester City, Brentford, and West Ham.

The 27-year-old Scotland international has struggled for playing time under Mikel Arteta in recent seasons, making just one appearance this season despite recovering from a hamstring injury sustained on international duty over the summer.

Tierney’s time at Arsenal, marked by spells of brilliance and injuries, has seen him make 125 appearances for the north London club. However, with his contract expiring this summer, Arsenal will not take up their option to extend his deal by a further year, marking the end of the road for his time in London.

According to reports, Tierney has already held talks with Celtic and could either sign a pre-contract agreement or move to the Scottish giants in the January window. The player himself is reportedly prepared to forgo up to £3 million to facilitate the transfer.

Celtic’s defensive situation could accelerate Tierney’s return, with current left-backs Greg Taylor and Alex Valle having uncertain futures. Taylor’s contract expires this summer, while Valle is midway through a loan from Barcelona.

While Arsenal would benefit from savings on the remainder of Tierney’s salary if he were to move in this window, the club’s manager Mikel Arteta has stated that all players want to focus on performing and impacting the team.

In other news, Arsenal is expecting offers for Poland defender Jakub Kiwior, who has been unable to establish himself as a regular starter at the Emirates Stadium. The club paid around £18 million to sign Kiwior from Italian side Spezia in January 2023, and his reputation in Italy remains strong.
