Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has questioned whether Arsenal forwards Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus have enough quality to fire the Gunners to a Premier League title this term.

So far through eight games, Arsenal sit second in the Premier League, level on points with North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Mikel Arteta’s side have yet to lose a league game, and entered the international break on the back of a dramatic 1-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Last season, the Gunners led the way for the majority of the campaign, only to suffer a disappointing drop in form from April onwards, which saw them win just four of their final 10 games. And while they look to be contenders this time around once again, ex-Manchester United full-back Gary Neville remains unsure whether or not the Gunners have enough firepower up front to win the title this season.

Speaking on ‘Stick To Football’, a podcast off shoot of Neville’s Sky Sports ‘The Overlap’ YouTube channel, Neville told Jill Scott, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane and Arsenal legend Ian Wright why he believes Arteta and co won’t win the league – in part due to the erratic nature of forwards Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in front of goal.

Last season, Nketiah scored just four goals in the Premier League, while Jesus netted 11 times. So far this season, the pair have combined for just three of Arsenal’s 16 league goals.

“There’s one thing about Arsenal, and I’ve watched all of Arsenal’s big games tis season against Tottenham and against [Manchester] City,” began Neville. “Both were difficult games. Tottenham obviously in very good form and City are City and they don’t give a lot away. [Eddie] Nketiah and [Gabriel] Jesus.

“There’s no doubt Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus work their absolute socks off. But in quality terms, is that going to be enough to win Arsenal the league? That’s my only doubt because if they had a centre-forward, like an Erling Haaland, if they had a Harry Kane – I’d be saying it’s Arsenal if they can keep William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Declan Rice fit.

“Honestly, I worry about Nketiah and Jesus. They’re erratic. They’re not wired to score goals naturally. Instinctively they don’t make the runs that you see goalscorers make.

“They hold back, they’re always looking for the pull-back, they’re never getting across players. I just look at Jesus, he is quite erratic in front of goal. The work ethic of both of them is brilliant. I just question, at that level, can they win the league without another striker.”
