Leeds would need to convince Sporting Lisbon to terminate Essugo’s loan deal with Las Palmas, and the Portuguese champions may be reluctant to let him go. Furthermore, Essugo’s release clause is set at £37 million, which could prove a stumbling block for Leeds.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has played down the likelihood of a busy transfer window, suggesting that the club’s priority is to get their injured players back fit. “Several of the long-term injured players are back,” Farke says. “Firpo is back. Illia looks good in training. Options are good to have, but if you have too many and the group is too big, it can divide the group.
