Celtic Transfer Target Raul Moro Suffers Major Injury Blow
Celtic’s reported January transfer target, Raul Moro, has suffered a major injury blow that could put an end to any immediate chance of a move to Parkhead. The 21-year-old winger, who plays for Real Valladolid, was stretchered off during his side’s 2-1 loss to Espanyol with what is suspected to be a fractured collarbone.
The injury is expected to rule Moro out for around three months, which would likely shelve any potential move to Celtic until the summer. Moro has been one of Real Valladolid’s standout performers this season, attracting interest from several clubs, including Celtic and Ajax.
Valued at £8.5 million, Moro’s injury comes at a critical time when Celtic were reportedly weighing up an offer for the Spain U21 international. Real Valladolid were said to be aware of Celtic’s interest, but as of now, no formal bid had been submitted.
With Moro now probably off the table for this transfer window, Brendan Rodgers and his recruitment team may need to turn their attention elsewhere as they seek to strengthen the squad. Reports have already linked Celtic with other wide players as the club looks to bolster its attacking options for the second half of the season.
Real Valladolid’s precarious position in La Liga – currently sitting 19th and battling relegation – could play a major role in Moro’s future. If the Spanish side drops to the second tier, Celtic may look to revisit their interest in the summer with the hope of securing the player at a reduced fee.
However, Ajax were also monitoring the winger, and a potential bidding war could still be on the cards in the next transfer window. Moro’s injury may temporarily cool interest, but his long-term potential will keep him on the radar of European clubs.
Celtic’s transfer plans have been dealt a blow with Moro’s injury, but the club will need to move quickly to identify alternative targets and strengthen the squad for the second half of the season.
