Alan Shearer issues two-word verdict on Mikel Arteta’s rant after Arsenal defeat
Alan Shearer issues two-word verdict on Mikel Arteta’s rant after Arsenal defeat yesterday
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has now been questioning Mikel Arteta’s rant after Arsenal slumped to a 1-0 defeat yesterday.
Arteta was fuming with both the referee and VAR officials following the loss and didn’t hide his feelings on this occasion.

The manager felt as if Newcastle’s goal shouldn’t have been allowed for multiple reasons, and that Arsenal were incredibly hard done by.
And upon hearing these thoughts, Alan Shearer was somewhat puzzled by the rant.
Gary Lineker shared Arteta’s post-match thoughts on X, repeating his comments on the officiating: “It’s embarrassing. It’s a disgrace.”
To which, Shearer replied with two words: “What was?”

Of course, the incident in question was the official’s decision not to disallow Anthony Gordon’s goal – which was scrutinised for multiple reasons.
And although Arteta was clear that Arsenal did suffer an injustice, Shearer clearly didn’t feel the same about the Newcastle winner.
Perhaps Arteta will have also been frustrated by his team’s performance on the day as well.
Although a lot of Arsenal fans will agree with his frustration at the decision, the side failed to create in front of goal once again.
Shearer couldn’t understand Arteta’s rant after Newcastle beat Arsenal
Of course, credit does have to be given to a very resilient Newcastle back line.
Jamal Lascelles was excellent for his side once again and offered the likes of Eddie Nketiah very little.

Bukayo Saka suffered a very quiet evening at St. James’ Park, curtailed by Dan Burn in the first half and Kieran Trippier in the second.
Perhaps some will feel a draw would have been the most fair on an evening in which neither side did quite enough to win.
However, it is Eddie Howe’s team that take a momentous three points forward.
And Alan Shearer will certainly be insisting that Newcastle deserved the win over Arsenal, regardless of Arteta’s comments.
It transpired to be an emotional night for Arsenal, one in which they clearly felt they were wronged.
But the focus will now need to quickly switch to a Champions League tie against Sevilla on Wednesday – a crucial tie for the side.
And Arteta will certainly be hoping for better nights for both Saka and Gabriel Martinelli who were heavily criticised yesterday.
