Ivan Toney is primed to return to Premier League action after scoring a hat-trick for Brentford B on Saturday.
The striker has been serving an eight-month suspension for betting offences but is eligible for Brentford’s next league game. Toney scored a remarkable 20 goals for the Bees last term, earning the 27-year-old an England call-up in the process.
His emergence as a prolific forward in the top flight has led to reports that Toney is on both Arsenal and Chelsea’s transfer radars. However, Brentford are claimed to have placed a prohibitive asking price in the region of £100m as Thomas Frank’s side fight against the threat of relegation.
Despite their respective needs for a new centre-forward, both the Gunners and Chelsea would have doubts about paying such a substantial fee for Toney, having been sidelined since May. However, the striker demonstrated that he has not lost his goalscoring touch in a 5-1 win for Brentford B over Southampton U23s.

It took the forward just four minutes to get on the scoresheet as he tucked away a cross from Kyreece Lisbie, son of former Charlton Athletic forward Kevin. Toney then doubled his tally before half-time, scoring a header from a free-kick delivery.
After the interval, it took the former Newcastle United man just 10 minutes to complete his hat-trick, scoring his second header of the game. His work for the afternoon was not done, though, as he squared the ball to Iwan Morgan for Brentford’s fourth of the afternoon.
It means that Toney will likely feature in Brentford’s matchday squad for their next league game against Nottingham Forest on January 20. Meanwhile, the speculation around Toney’s future will continue after sending a reminder of his prowess in front of goal.
