Everton Set Unwanted Record Despite Late VAR Assist in Draw at Newcastle

Everton managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United, thanks to a late penalty scored by Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The match, which took place at St. James’ Park, saw Calvert-Lewin find the net in the 88th minute after VAR intervention deemed Paul Dummett had fouled Ashley Young. This was Calvert-Lewin’s first goal since October.

The game had earlier seen a Newcastle goal by Dan Burn disallowed for offside, again following a VAR review. Newcastle had initially taken the lead in the 15th minute with a goal from Alexander Isak, who notched his 15th Premier League goal of the season. Isak’s goal came after a pass from Harvey Barnes, which he followed with a dribble past Jarrad Branthwaite and a precise shot past Everton’s standout player of the match, Jordan Pickford.

Despite the draw and the celebrations that followed, the result extended Everton’s winless streak to 13 Premier League matches, marking the club’s longest stretch without a victory in the history of the EPL. The last time Everton experienced a similar winless run was in 1957, before the Premier League was established in 1992.
