Leeds United’s hopes of securing automatic promotion to the Premier League have been given another boost after Leicester City lost to relegation-threatened Plymouth Argyle on Friday night.
The Foxes headed into the encounter on the South Coast knowing a victory would put them in a strong position to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking. Despite dominating the early exchanges, it was Plymouth who opened the scoring at Home Park.
A swift counter-attack from the hosts allowed Mustapha Bundu to burst down the left flank before curling a good finish into the bottom corner. Patson Daka arguably had the best chance of the game for the visitors just before the hour mark but his close-range effort went agonisingly across the face of goal.

The Whites knew they would remain third on Friday evening regardless of the result in Devon but Daniel Farke’s side will return to the top of the Championship for at least a few hours if they manage to beat Blackburn Rovers on Saturday lunchtime. A victory at Elland Road would see Leeds lead the division by two points with three matches remaining.
However, they would drop to second if title contenders Ipswich Town are victorious at 3pm against Middlesbrough. While momentum is beginning to swing away from Leicester, they still have the comfort blanket of a game in hand on both Leeds and Ipswich in the title race.
Leicester’s game in hand will be against fellow promotion contenders Southampton a week on Tuesday at the King Power Stadium. A victory for the Saints that day could do irreversible damage to the Foxes’ automatic promotion hopes.
