Alleged Hammers managerial target Marco Silva showed pure class with a West Ham message in the wake of Fulham’s win.

West Ham were beaten 2-0 by Fulham at the London Stadium on Sunday.

The Hammers looked like a team who have completely run out of steam.

And it was a result that likely puts paid to West Ham’s hopes of a fourth consecutive campaign of European football.

The game was marred by a sickening blow to young star George Earthy.

The midfielder came on for his Premier League debut but left the pitch moments later on a stretcher, in a neck brace and on oxygen before being taken to hospital.

It was a shocking and worrying moment which helped put a frustrating afternoon in perspective.

On that front, the result means David Moyes looks increasingly likely to leave West Ham with his contract up at the end of the season.

Ironically Fulham boss Marco Silva is allegedly among those who might replace the Scot in the Hammers hotseat.

According to a report from The Sun, West Ham are on red alert when it comes to the possibility of appointing Silva. And he has been heavily linked with West Ham before.

Many West Ham fans were disappointed with the behaviour of some Fulham supporters during the time Earthy laid stricken on the turf.

It was clear it was a serious injury but there was a lack of respect and football fan etiquette from some of the visiting supporters.

Their boss more than made up for that, though.

Because alleged managerial target Silva showed pure class with a West Ham message.

Instead of gushing about his team doing the double over West Ham or revelling in the victory, Silva used his post-match interviews to send a message of support to young Earthy.

“A sad moment for a young lad who is making his debut in the Premier League for an 18, 19-years-old boy and just three minutes on the pitch,” Silva told Fulham’s website.

“It happened of course that situation and no news right now but we are really looking forward to having good news quickly because that’s everything that we want right now.

“A sad moment but we wish – myself and our football club – all the support for him, for his family as well and for West Ham.”

That oozes class from Silva, so huge respect to him.

Especially in this dog-eat-dog world of modern football where selfishness often knows no bounds.

West Ham have provided an update since the game confirming Earthy is being assessed in a London hospital.

“The midfielder – who entered the field as a second half substitute to make his Premier League debut against the Cottagers – was taken off in stoppage time,” West Ham said.

“Manager David Moyes said: “George has suffered a head injury.

“He’s awake and has been taken to hospital for further assessment.”

“West Ham United will provide a further update in due course.”
