Liam Cooper suggests he still wants to be at Leeds United next season
Leeds United have a number of players out of contract at the end of the season.
This het a crossroads in the career of many members of Leeds’ current squad, making it all the more imperative that promotion is achieved in the coming weeks.
Lewis Bate and Ian Poveda, who are both currently out on loan away from Elland Road, have have already played their last game for the club due to their contract situations.
Sam Byram and Jamie Shackleton also have deals that are expiring this summer. The former in particular has offered a lot this season, but both players’ injury problems could mean Leeds opt against handing out extensions.
Leeds stalwarts Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling represent potentially the most emotional exits in the coming weeks. Like Bate and Poveda, the latter is actually out on loan and so already said his goodbyes in January.
Dallas, meanwhile, has already confirmed he will be retiring upon the expiration of his contract having failed to recover from injury. Cooper, though, faces a little more uncertainty.

Cooper shares what he hopes the future holds at Leeds
According to Phil Hay, Cooper has acknowledged that a new deal will not be coming his way, with talks seemingly not having been held.

It has been thought for a number of months now this would be the case, with Cooper even having the chance to leave in January amid interest from Blackburn Rovers.
Cooper actually turned down that approach in the hope he would win his place back in the side, but that has not materialised, making just one league start since New Year’s Day.

Alongside Dallas and Ayling, Cooper won ‘Leeds United’s Special Achievement Award’ at the club’s award ceremony, where he spoke on Twitter about how much he has loved being captain.
For a £600k signing from Chesterfield, Cooper has proved to be an excellent piece of business. He still harnesses hope this season will not be the end.
He said: “I’ve tried everyday to lead by example, be a good example around the place and give everything I have to possibly make this club better. It’s one I’ve done with great honour, I’ve enjoyed every second and hopefully that can continue for a few more years but we’ll see.”
