Sean Dyche blamed by journalist as ‘really brutal’ Everton sack verdict shared

Andy Dunn believes Sean Dyche is lucky to still be in charge at Everton due to the run of poor form which has seen just him win one in 15 Premier League games.

Initially, it looked like the first point deductions had spurred the Toffees on as they won four in a row after that news broke in November.

However, this form didn’t last and they have won just one Premier League game since, which has seen the manager come under some scrutiny.

In a column for the Sunday Mirror (21 April, page 63), Dunn suggested this could be enough to see Dyche depart Goodison Park.

He said: “Any Everton fan wanting Dyche out wants him out because of a run of 15 Premier League games including just one win and that was gifted to them by a freak mistake from 10-man Burnley.

“Dyche is right. It’s a really brutal business, football management. A fickle one. But when you are responsible for that sort of form, you are fortunate to still be in your post.”

It is safe to say that Everton’s form this season hasn’t been good enough. Nine wins from 32 games see them firmly stuck in a relegation battle.

This has been partially due to the poor individual performances that have been on show at times. None more so than the striker situation in Merseyside.

Their top Premier League scorer, according to FotMob, is Abdoulaye Doucoure who has just six goals. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is behind him on five while Beto has just three.

Despite this being frustrating, the points deductions have certainly played their part on the season as things could have been so different.

Without them, Everton would be sitting fifteenth and ten points away from the relegation zone with six games left to play.

This would have classed as a positive season for Dyche given the lack of funds and some poor performances from his players.

It may be a frustrating time but sacking the man who has added some stability in testing times deserves a longer spell than most.
