Everton vs Nottingham Forest: Sean Dyche annoyed by ‘awful’ Andre Gomes moment
Paul Robinson slammed Andre Gomes for his “awful” delivery during the Everton versus Nottingham Forest match, which finished 2-0 to the Toffees.
Gomes failed to find a team-mate with his set-piece deliveries on multiple occasions during the opening 45 minutes at Goodison Park.
Robinson criticised the quality of the free-kicks and pointed out that even Sean Dyche was annoyed in the dugout.
“That’s terrible from a player of his experience,” Robinson said on BBC Radio 5 Live [21 April, 1:38pm] of one such free-kick.
Gomes was guilty of another stray pass not long after, to which Robinson said: “That was awful. It’s left Sean Dyche annoyed as well.”
Andre Gomes recalled to Everton XI
Gomes’ deliveries were not great in the first half and it is clear to see why Dyche was annoyed. Forest have conceded the most goals from set-pieces this season, so it was a great route through on goal.
Dyche’s mood would have been lifted before the interval, though, thanks to a long-range strike from Idrissa Gueye to open the scoring in Sunday’s (21 April) contest.
A view from outside Goodison Park – the home of Everton.
As for Gomes himself, he has worked his way back into the team after a long time on the sidelines and has produced some quality moments from midfield.
After the shambolic first-half display from Everton at Chelsea last time out, changes were always likely to be made against Forest and Gomes was one of those who benefited.
The less said about those few dreadful set-piece deliveries in the first half, though, the better.
