Leeds should try for double raid on Tottenham as Fabrizio Romano confirms star will leave on a free

Leeds United should consider launching a double raid on Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with Joe Rodon and Ryan Sessegnon both potential targets. Rodon, who has impressed on loan at Leeds this season, is already a priority signing for the Whites, but Sessegnon’s availability on a free transfer makes him an attractive option.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Sessegnon will leave Spurs this summer, and while there is interest from clubs in England and Europe, the player’s preference is to stay in the Premier League. Leeds would need to secure promotion to have a good chance of winning the race for the player, but as a free agent, he would represent a low-risk investment.

Sessegnon has endured an injury-plagued spell with Spurs, managing just 57 appearances over five years following a £25m move from Fulham in 2019. However, at just 24 years old, he still has plenty of quality and may just need a change of environment to get a regular run of games and build up his confidence and fitness.

Leeds have had issues at left-back for some time, and while Junior Firpo has come to the fore in recent months, a return to the Premier League represents a major step-up in quality. Ensuring adequate options at left-back would be wise, and Sessegnon’s experience and ability make him an attractive option.

Rodon, meanwhile, has been a rock at the heart of the Leeds defense during his loan spell, and his permanent signing is a priority for the Whites. A deal in the region of £12m, rising to £15m with add-ons, would be enough to secure his signature, handing Tottenham a small profit on their original £11m investment from Swansea in 2020.

Leeds’ promotion push has been impressive, and victory in the Championship play-off final against Southampton would ensure an instant return to the Premier League. However, play-off success would also help secure the futures of several top stars, including Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville, who are attracting interest from Premier League sides.

In the event Leeds fail to win promotion, they would be exposed to the possibility of losing Rodon elsewhere, with clubs in the Premier League also alerted to the Wales international’s fine form. Leeds are the favorites for his signature, but other clubs may try to hijack the deal if the Whites fail to secure promotion.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are undergoing a significant overhaul under Ange Postecoglou, with 10 stars set to leave the club this summer. In addition to Rodon and Sessegnon, Emerson Royal, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso, and Bryan Gil are all up for sale, while Djed Spence, Japhet Tanganga, Sergio Reguilon, and Tanguy Ndombele are also set to make permanent moves elsewhere.

Spurs will have to wave farewell to a hefty portion of their outlays, having spent £225m to sign the 10 players. However, they will make a small profit on Rodon and potentially others, as they look to streamline their squad and improve overall quality.

Postecoglou’s ruthless approach has already yielded impressive results, with Spurs finishing fifth in the Premier League and securing a Europa League spot. However, the Aussie boss wants more and is determined to establish Tottenham among the very best in English and European football.

Leeds, meanwhile, will be hoping to secure promotion and build on their impressive Championship form. Signing Rodon and Sessegnon would be a significant coup, and would help ensure the Whites are well-equipped for the challenges of the Premier League.
