Keith Wyness: Everton now in takeover ‘endgame’ as ‘last negotiation’ held

Everton FC Takeover Saga Reaches ‘End Game’ as Final Negotiations Begin

According to former Everton CEO Keith Wyness, the club’s prolonged takeover saga has entered its final stages, with all parties involved in the negotiations reaching a critical juncture. Wyness, who now runs a football consultancy firm, believes that a new equity partner is necessary to join forces with Rights and Media Funding and MSP Sports Capital, effectively “taking out” 777 Partners and bringing much-needed stability to the club.

The US investment group 777 Partners has been given a deadline of May 31 to complete the deal, which was initially agreed upon with Farhad Moshiri in September 2023. However, they have struggled to meet the Premier League’s conditions and convince top-flight chiefs to approve the deal. 777 Partners has invested around £200 million into the club through loans, while MSP Sports Capital and Rights and Media Funding (RMF) are owed similar figures.

Wyness emphasized the importance of all three parties sitting down for discussions as the “end game” approaches. He stated, “It’s getting towards the end game now… We’re coming to the last act of negotiation between the present debt-holders.” Wyness acknowledged the key players in the negotiations, including Rights and Media Funding, MSP Sports Capital, and 777 Partners, and stressed the need for compromise to maintain Everton’s position.

Wyness expressed hope that a new equity partner would come in, “take out” 777, and work with the other two parties to stabilize and spread the debt over a longer period. This, he believes, would enable the club to move forward with its new stadium plans and provide much-needed stability.

As the takeover saga reaches its climax, Everton fans eagerly await a resolution that will secure the club’s future. With Wyness’s expertise and insight, it is clear that the next few weeks will be crucial in determining the fate of the Toffees.
