Arsenal have their eye on Ajax forward Mohammed Kudus and could look to reunite him with Netherlands defender Jurrien Timber before the summer transfer window is done, according to Charles Watts.

Kudus was heavily linked with Manchester United last season amid his great performances for Ajax. The central attacking midfielder, who can also play as a centre-forward or winger, managed 18 goals and seven assists in 42 games across all competitions.

But Man Utd might be beaten to Kudus’ signing by either Arsenal or Brighton. Seagulls boss Roberto de Zerbi is known to be a big fan of the versatile star, while on Tuesday the Daily Mail revealed how Arsenal have joined the chase for him.

Watts has now confirmed that Kudus ‘ticks a lot of boxes’ for the Gunners. And their existing contacts with Ajax – stemming from Timber’s recent transfer – may help the Kudus talks to go through smoothly.

“He [Kudus] is definitely a player that they like,” Watts told TEAMtalk. “I’ve seen the recent reports that they’re potentially looking to step up that interest a bit later on in the window, which wouldn’t surprise me if that is the case.

“I still think they’re probably looking at adding at least one more player before the deadline and Kudus ticks a lot of boxes in terms of what they would look to bring in. He can cover on that right-hand side of the attack, which is absolutely a priority for Arsenal. He’s versatile, which is, again, an absolute must if you’re going to sign for Arsenal nowadays under Mikel Arteta.

“He’s in the exact age range that they want to look to bring players in. So he ticks all of those boxes.

Mohammed Kudus ‘quite open to move’ – Charles Watts
“Arsenal have a decent working relationship with Ajax after what they did with Timber, which might help them in that regard. And it seems like Kudus is quite open to a move.

“It’s one certainly to keep an eye on but I do think initially, there’s going to be quite a lot of work to be done with moving players out before they really move ahead in terms of trying to add further to the squad. But it’s definitely one that I wouldn’t rule out yet.”
