Good bye Dominic? Everton plot move for £20m DCL upgrade who “can do a lot of the things Lukaku can do”

Everton Eye £20m Calvert-Lewin Upgrade in Armando Broja

As the summer transfer window approaches, Everton are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea striker Armando Broja, who could be available for around £20m. The 22-year-old Albanian forward has also attracted interest from Wolves, Crystal Palace, Monaco, and Stuttgart, but Everton manager Sean Dyche believes Broja could be an excellent signing for his side.

Broja’s potential arrival at Goodison Park could be seen as an upgrade on current striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been linked with a move to Newcastle United. While Calvert-Lewin has struggled with injuries and form, Broja offers a fresh start and a new dimension to Everton’s attack. According to journalist Gab Marcotti, Broja “can do a lot of things Lukaku can do,” drawing comparisons to Romelu Lukaku, who enjoyed a successful stint at Everton from 2014 to 2017.

Despite his limited game time at Chelsea, Broja’s statistics suggest he could be an improvement on Calvert-Lewin. With a pass accuracy of 84% compared to Calvert-Lewin’s 56%, Broja’s all-round game is more impressive. He also boasts a better take-on success rate and a higher goal-per-shot-on-target ratio than the English forward.

While Broja’s aerial ability is not as strong as Calvert-Lewin’s, his potential to retain possession and create chances for his teammates makes him an attractive option for Dyche’s side. With Calvert-Lewin’s future uncertain, Broja could be the perfect replacement, following in the footsteps of Lukaku, who scored 87 goals in 166 appearances for Everton.

However, the signing of Broja may be a stretch for Everton, given their financial situation. The club’s proposed takeover by 777 Partners has stalled, and outgoings are expected this summer to avoid further points deductions. Jarrad Branthwaite is likely to depart Goodison Park, and Calvert-Lewin’s potential exit could raise funds for Broja’s signing.

In a summer of uncertainty, Everton fans will be watching with interest to see if Broja can
