As the summer transfer window approaches, Leeds United fans are eagerly awaiting news on the fate of their loan players. One player whose future is particularly uncertain is Brenden Aaronson, the £25m midfielder who spent last season on loan at Union Berlin.

According to transfer insider Graeme Bailey, there is a chance Aaronson could return to Elland Road and play for Leeds United in the Championship next season. Bailey revealed that Leeds considered bringing Aaronson back in January when his loan spell at Union Berlin wasn’t going as planned.

While Aaronson’s future is uncertain, the 23-year-old is currently focused on his international duties with the USA as they prepare for the Copa America. When asked about his future, Aaronson insisted he is not thinking about it and is solely focused on his responsibilities with the national team.

Aaronson’s loan spell at Union Berlin was a mixed bag. He struggled to make an impact initially, but improved towards the end of the season. However, it wasn’t enough to convince Union Berlin to sign him permanently. With Leeds unlikely to sell him, Aaronson’s options are limited.

Bailey believes Aaronson could be a top player in the Championship if he can find his form. “I can see Aaronson back at the club if Farke is open to it,” Bailey said. “If not, they will probably loan him out as he will be hard to sell now. I can see Aaronson playing in the Championship for Leeds, and if he did, I think he would be a good player in the Championship personally.”

Leeds United’s chairman, Paraag Marathe, has confirmed that the club is in a stronger position this summer compared to last year, when eight first-team players left on loan following relegation from the Premier League. Only two of the six loanees, Jack Harrison and Marc Roca, have the option to leave temporarily again, with Harrison expected to return to Everton and Roca likely to join Real Betis on loan for a second spell.

The futures of Max Wober, Rasmus Kristensen, and Diego Llorente are also uncertain, with AS Roma interested in signing Llorente and Borussia Monchengladbach unable to afford Wober’s asking price. Kristensen, meanwhile, is unlikely to re-join Llorente at Roma.
