“He asked if we could meet within the next 24 hours, again in London.
“I looked at my wife, and she just laughed. It’s like Home Alone 2: Lost in New York — not again.”Rohl has revealed that his talks with the American owners before landing the top job at Rangers derailed a planned family holiday.
Speaking to The Sun, he said: “We had just landed in Greece when the owner of Rangers called me.“The children should be able to go to school in one place and not have to move to a different city every few years.
“I can move around the city completely freely, go to restaurants without being recognised, or accompany my children to their football matches.
“They actually think it’s great that I’m with Rangers — because ever since then, I’ve been listed as a manager in the FIFA video game.”He said: “My job is a big challenge for our family. I’ve only seen my children four or five times a year since autumn 2023.
“We see each other at Christmas, once in February during the school holidays, and then again at Easter. But we wanted it this way, a consistent home base.
But having also managed Sheffield Wednesday from 2023 to 2025, Rohl admits he has rarely seen his family in recent years – and conceded he enjoys escaping the scrutiny of the Glasgow goldfish bowl.
Rohl has led Rangers back into the title race with the Light Blues sitting four points off the summit with five matches remaining – having played a game less than league leaders Hearts and title rivals Celtic.
The German boss has overseen a massive turnaround on the pitch for the Light Blues since taking charge in October following Russell Martin’s disastrous time in Glasgow.
