Nottingham Forest are set to launch move for Arne Engels, with Dermot Desmond now prepared to sanction the Celtic star’s exit in the summer.
Desmond willing to sell Engels to balance the books this summer
There could be some major departures at Parkhead this summer, with it being revealed Desmond could sell Benjamin Nygren and Engels to balance the books, with the latter attracting interest from Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Forest.
And Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is now expected to make a move for the 22-year-old, after making a number of attempts to secure his signature in the January transfer window.
That is according to a report from TEAMtalk, which states the Tricky Trees are the ‘most persistent suitors from the Premier League’, with Elliot Anderson’s potential departure exacerbating the need to sign a new central midfielder.
Champions League semi-finalists Atletico Madrid have also stormed into the race for the Belgian, so there could be competition for his signature, off the back of two very impressive campaigns in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic.
After the maestro’s debut season, in which he chipped in with nine goals and five assists in 30 league matches, teammate Callum McGregor said: “I’m sure there’s more to come for him, but he’s had an amazing first season.”
The former FC Augsburg man has remained an important player this term, despite his season being interrupted by a thigh injury, making 43 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions.
The latest on Elliot Anderson’s future at Nottingham Forest
Forest manager Vitor Pereira recently admitted he doesn’t know whether Anderson will remain at the City Ground beyond the end of the campaign.
“I cannot say [whether he will stay], I don’t have the answer. I know he deserves the top of the world. I know that he’s our player, and we need to enjoy him because I have worked with the top talent players, but to find a top player with this character is not easy.
“I’m not thinking about the next season. I’m thinking about finishing this season in the best position that we can.”
There is plenty of interest in England star, who impressed during World Cup qualifying, with the Magpies, Manchester City and Manchester United among the potential suitors, and he could be the Tricky Trees’ record sale by some distance, with a potential transfer fee of £100m touted.
Not only is Anderson’s future up in the air, but there have also been suggestions Pereira may not last much longer in the Nottingham Forest dugout, despite Marinakis sacking Nuno, Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche already this season.
